Japanese Language & Culture 1

Introduction to the basic structure of the Japanese language, as well as the written language components.

In this course you will learn to:

  • Read and write all the Hiragana and Katakana
  • Read and recognize 85 Kanji
  • Use Japanese to describe basic details of your own life, including family, school, hobbies, likes, dislikes, and daily activities
  • Answer questions in Japanese about you daily life with low-level fluency
  • Use Japanese to aska a friend about his/her family and daily life
  • Describe a person or a situation using a variety of adjectives in Japanese
  • Skim and scan written Japanese passages for important content and meaning
  • Make short oral presentations in Japanese
  • Talk at a basic level about Japanese geography, history and culture.
